London's little secrets: Platform 9 and 3/4
Yes! You can find it in King's Cross station! It has moved location a couple of times. And changed appearances with the moves (there is construction work going on at the moment...). It used to look like this (with part of a trolley sticking out a real brick wall). You can find the current platform 9 and 3/4 at the far end of platform 8. Platforms 1-4 need a ticket to get past the barrier, but a ticket isn't required for platform 8. Walk along the platform. On your left there will be a sign directing you to platforms 9+ - ignore it, continue walking along platform 8. Go past the cycle rack. You will feel like you are going too far, because all the commuters will not be going this far. Don't give up. Carry on walking until on your left you spot the little entry way with platform 9 and 3/4. There is a trolley sticking half out a wall (as if its going through!). Not a real brick wall at the moment, a mock one. But the sign denoting 'Platform 9 and 3/4' is cute. At the moment there aren't any signs guiding you to this platform (there used to be). Whenever I've been, there has always been a group of tourists (families, groups of young adults, groups of older adults(!)) checking out this nod to a fantastic series of books. Go forth, and enjoy!
