Poem: Extract from 'White', by Safiya Henderson-Holmes

Extract from 'White', by Safiya Henderson-Holmes

'The language of illness and disease is foreign to many,
and for the many who speak it, our tongues often knot
around each letter of the day and, if not knotted,
perhaps try too hard to give sound to the syllables
which have brought us to this far and foreign place,
where visitors sometimes stand and wave shores away.
And those visitors who dare with love and or fear
to venture closer to our island of frail and uncertain
human bodies, dare to touch our now unknown skin, still
with theirs. We have all traveled such a long way to
get here.'
